Like so many others I am a
long-time fan of your Mothers, as well as you and your brother. I
just received the Here's Lucy DVD set and I have laughed and cried for
the last 3 evenings. Not only are the episodes just marvelous, but
those outtakes and bloopers are just wonderful. From Nancy Douglas I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I watched "Here's Lucy" when I was a teenager every week. I had the pleasure of meeting Lucy when I was 17 in 1972, in front of her house. She was getting out of a station wagon and there was a man with her, but I don't believe he was Mr. Morton. I yelled out to Lucy and she waved at me. I'll never forget what she had on. A pants suit with matching jacket in a black and grey type pattern. That was my graduation present from my parents. A trip to California for the summer. What a summer of love that was! Later that same day, I was at the traffic light on the corner of Hollywood and Vine. I was in my brand new 1972 Mach 1 Mustang. I looked over to my left and there was a black limo next to me. I couldn't believe my eyes! It was Richard Burton and Liz Taylor. Liz waved and me. How cool is that! Now I have my DVD box set of "Here's Lucy", and I have all these great things that happened when I was 17 and I have Lucy to thank for that. It's a little sad also viewing this show and seeing all the people who are no longer here on earth coming across my TV screen. Oh one more thing. I
also saw that hunk Desi, Lucy's son in 1973. He was in a white
Pontiac Trans Am pulling into his mother's driveway. I was on the
corner sitting on my motorcycle hoping to meet him. I was too shy
and drove off. Darn, now he's married. The good ones always
get away! Well that was my last trip to California. From Robert Brown Run right out and buy this
set. It is incredible and what wonderful prints they have of these
shows. I dare say they look better than they ever did. Being a life long
Lucy fan my only regret is that they did not release each season with
every episode as I would certainly purchase them all. To be honest the
show is even better then I remember it. I will look forward to volumes 2
3 4 5 I am sure they will be more to come. Thank you for a great job. From Sasha Robles I just got the Here's Lucy DVDs and i love. It's absolutely terrific and has so many bonus stuff. My favorite 2 episodes is the one with Wayne Newton and Lucie Arnaz, cause Lucie looks terrific dancing and my god so beautiful. And my other favorite episode is the 1 when Desi Arnaz jr dances with Ann Margret. Here's Lucy was a terrific show and I'm so happy I bought the DVDs. One thing I really noticed was how talented both Lucie and Desi Arnaz jr are, I guess with parents like theirs, there's no surprise. I'm a huge Lucy and Desi fan, and love I love Lucy, so I'm happy that Lucie and Desi jr continue to share their parents' talents with the whole world, because people of all ages, races and religions love Lucy and Desi. At my age of 22 and all the shows and actors and actresses I like I gotta say my very favorites are Lucy and Desi. maybe if I'm lucky I will get to meet Lucie Arnaz or Desi Arnaz jr one day just to tell them how great their parents were and also to tell them that they do a great job of keeping there parents memories alive and strong.
From Meghan Langley, in NY These DVDs are the best! There are simply no words to describe how great they are! All Lucy and Lucie fans MUST have these, the bonus features alone are worth it! I can't get enough of them. I hope they make many more Here's Lucy box sets!
From Tom Iodice I can't begin to tell you how big a fan I have always been of your mom's. I will watch anything Lucy at any time. I recently bought the Here's Lucy videos and just love them. I wanted to tell you how great I think you and Desi were in the show as well and I am now a fan of yours as well! You should be on a weekly show..I would watch you! I loved the episode about the Generation Gap! You and Desi were great dancers in that one and You, your mom and Ginger Rogers doing the Charleston was fantastic! Desi was so great with Ann-Margret on your show. Will we see more of you and Desi on TV again? We would love to see you two in a musical variety special sometime!!
From Jim Williams, in Las Vegas, NV The DVD set of "Here's Lucy" is an absolute treat! I've loved every minute of the episodes, the behind-the-scenes footage and especially the commentaries! Alot of TLC obviously went into these DVDs and I think each and every one of you deserves a big round of applause! I'd love to see more in the future. Thank you so much for your hard work--I'll treasure these always. From Kent Graovac Thanks loads for getting the "Ball" rolling and producing this wonderful set for fans like me. I had given up hope of ever seeing Here's Lucy since neither TV Land nor any other enterprising network seemed to show any interest in running it (and it would unfortunately be butchered if they did). Everything about this set is top-notch, the cover graphics, the pristine prints, and the extras. PLEASE consider putting together some season sets or at the very least a "Best of Here's Lucy - Volume 2". We love Lucy, Lucie, Desi Jr. & Gale!!!
From Mark R. Simpson I have just received my "Here's Lucy" DVD set and am amazed at what is included on this set!! The behind the scenes footage is amazing and the Pepsodent commercial brings back so many memories!! The episode quality is pristine!!! I had forgotten the alternate opening without Luci and Desi Jr, as the Lucy puppet pulls the spotlight down!!! I never missed "Here's Lucy" as a child and was so excited about this DVD set!!! I waitied for two months for it to be released and was upset that I could not find it, on the release date, at retail stores such as Target, Fred Meyer or Best Buy. I finally ordered it at a wonderful price from TowerRecords.com. I must say...it was totally worth the wait!!!! I was actually in tears while watching. I hope that Lucie will actually see this e-mail. I have loved Lucy and company my entire life, and one of the biggest thrills of my life was to attend a filming of "Life With Lucy" in 1986. As long as I live, I will never forget that experience of the opportunity of seeing Lucy, Gale Gordan and, on that occassion, Audrey Meadows in person!!!! I hope that another volume of "Here's Lucy" will be released, or perhaps season sets, if this sells well enough...which I'm confident it will!!!! It would be great also to see "The Lucy Show", The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour", and "Life With Lucy" on DVD as well!!!! I also purchased my "I Love Lucy" second season set today!!! I am a huge "Bewitched"/Elizabeth Montgomery fan as well (www.TheBewitchedCollector.com) and hope that, when Sony releases that on DVD in 2005, the sets are half as great as the "Here's Lucy" set!!! Lucie and Desi, Jr. did a spectacular job putting this together!!! I thank them so much for doing it!!!!
From Lee Steele, in Bridgeport, CT It took me a couple of
days, but I've finally devoured the entire Here's Lucie box set. I am so
grateful to you and Desi for such a thoughtfully done DVD compilation.
It's absolutely priceless. I was very little when Here's Lucy was on the
first time, and purchased the set out of nostalgia. When it left the
air, I was only 8 or 9, and the show used to come on past my bed time,
but I remember sneaking to the top of the stairs that ran across from
the television, and I would silently view the show through the railing. From Ron Hoffman IT HAS BEEN A JOY WATCHING "HERE'S LUCY" ON DVD!! IT BROUGHT BACK FOND MEMORIES WHEN I FIRST WATCHED THE SHOW. I REMEMBER WATCHING THESE AS A LITTLE BOY WITH MY MOM. I HOPE YOU & DESI, JR. WILL BE ISSUING ANOTHER GREAT DVD SET OF MORE FROM "HERE'S LUCY". ACCORDING TO "THE LUCY BOOK" BY GEOFFREY MARK FIDELMAN, THERE ARE PLENTY MORE OUTSTANDING EPISODES, ESPECIALLY THE LAST 5 OR SO BEFORE THE SERIES ENDED. ALSO, IS THERE ANYTHING IN THE WORKS TO HAVE THE "HERE'S LUCY" DOLL FROM THE SHOW'S OPENER RECREATED AND COMMISSIONED FOR SALE? IT IS ADORABLE AND HAS TO BE THE ONE THING LUCY FANS WILL REMEMBER FIRST IF ASKED "WHAT THEY REMEMBER ABOUT "HERE'S LUCY". ONCE AGAIN, THE DVD COLLECTION IS OUTSTANDING.
From Breonna Jackson, in CA I thought the Here's Lucy DVD was the best treat that I've received! I loved every episode and the extras too. I appreciated the commentaries by Lucie Arnaz, Desi Arnaz IV, Carol Burnett, and Wayne Newton. There were things I've never known and they cleared that up for me. I do not regret buying this DVD at all! From Bobby, in Portsmouth, NH I just got the DVD yesterday. I was doing a little dance when they came in the mail! Now, I've just begun to watch them. My favorite part are the behind the scenes stuff like rehearsals... and thank you so much to Lucie and Desi Jr. for the commentary! This is the kind of thing I've wanted for some time. Lucie, I met you before you spoke at Ogunquit Playhouse last summer and you are so nice. Thanks for giving of yourself. From Pat Mulei, in Ocala, FL I just purchased the "Here's Lucy" dvd set, and I'm in Lucy heaven all over again! To see this show again, and in crystal clear condition is absolutely delightful...it reminds me how much of a hard worker and perfectionist that Lucy was throughout her unbelievable career! And in that, we could all take a lesson.... put heart and soul into every aspect of what you do!! Can't say THANK YOU enough. From Michael J. Anderson I have been watching the new DVDs of Here's Lucy. What an amazing set. The prints are beautiful, but the extras are incredible. The behind-the-scenes footage, out-takes rehearsals and bloopers are real treat, but the commentaries by Lucie and Desi are icing on the cake. This is one of the best DVD sets ever released, if you have any interest in the history of television this is a must own! I can't wait for more sets of this series to be released. I saw this series when it first aired, I loved it then, but I love it even more now. Thank you for the love and care put into this release, it really shows. Thanks To Lucy and her children Lucie & Desi, this is really a gift to all fans, and to generations of new fans. Please release more sets of Here's Lucy. From Kristin Blackburn We just purchased the Here's Lucy DVD and watched it as a family last night. We were so excited to receive it and it was all that we hoped it would be. As a child, I can remember lying on the floor in front of the television watching the show and no one else being able to see the TV. My mother called as we were watching the DVD and she remembered loving the show as I did because you, Desi, and your mother were all in it together. It just brought back some wonderful memories. I am a huge fan of yours and I have a lot of memorabilia, but this is one of my favorites. We especially loved all of the extras. The blooper footage, promos, and Pepsodent commercial were favorites as well as the Ann Margaret show and the footage of you and Desi as Lucy and Ricky. From Kevin Knapp, in San Francisco, CA I just finished watching the Best Loved Here’s Lucy DVD set. It was very well put together. Thank you for participating in this venture it made the whole set that much more entertaining and informative. I wish I could speak for the millions of people that loved your parents work, but I can only speak for myself. Thank you to you and your brother Desi for sharing both of them with the rest of the world. I am certain it wasn’t easy for either of you, especially when you were both growing up. One thing I was curious about, I didn’t hear much about Mary Jane Croft, Carole Cook or Gale Gordon in the DVD set was there a reason? From Eldo Ray Estes, in NYC, NY I have been GLUED to my
DVD player all day today watching these incredible "Here's
Lucy" shows... Such memories of my childhood. And I
needn't tell you how I am laughing hysterically at them. My only
complaint is that there are not more episodes minus guest stars.
The episodes which center on the Carter family without a guest star are
definitely the best ones. From Michael David Kline, in Santa Barbara, CA I purchased this DVD while in Jamestown NY at the Lucille ball festival. It is amazing. I have never seen Here's Lucy before but have been waiting for so long for it to hit DVD/VHS. I love the bloopers and behind the scene rehearsals that are apart of the package. It is amazing. i also love the commentaries that are made on certain episodes with Ms Arnaz, Mr Arnaz and other celebs. I am so grateful to have this DVD. It is truly a treasure. From Megan, in IN I haven't seen the dvd's yet, but did get to watch a few episodes including one w/commentary at Lucy's Birthday Celebration two weeks ago in Jamestown. Jamestown in beautiful. Anyone who can go should! Commentary was hilarious w/Lucie and Desi! Ellen DeGenerous and Liza Minelli were brought up, I'll leave it at that! :) It speaks for itself. Can't wait to buy the dvd's though!
From Mark C Bale, in Swansea, Wales, U.K. I live in the UK (Wales), and have ordered the Here's Lucy DVD - very much looking forward to this. I hope further releases will happen (pity Gale Gordon wasn't on the cover though). Any chance of the early b/w Lucy Show episodes or even Life with Lucy getting a release? From Clint, in Pittsburgh, PA All I can say is "Way to go!!" I have not seen any of the Here's Lucy episodes since the original airings. It's like having a new sitcom on TV for me. I can't believe the quality and price of this set and all of the extras, just unbelievable. Great work, thanks a bunch and keep 'em coming!. From Brian Spitler, in Florida I just bought the HERE'S LUCY DVD set, and am very pleased with it. I want to share with you that I saw you in the Kenley Players' productions of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS as Princess Winnifred and LI'L ABNER as Daisy Mae in Dayton, OH all those many years ago, and enjoyed your work so much. I also remember your appearance with Robert Klein on the Tony Awards doing "They're Playing our Song." Of course, you also appeared in some wonderful TV movies. . . my point is to say "thanks" for keeping the memory of your parents' work alive on home video, and congratulations on your own career and work-and I look forward to seeing you in more theatre appearances some day!! Now, I'm looking forward to watching these great HERE'S LUCY shows. . . From Kathy Semian, in Conneaut Lake, PA I just received my DVDs today and I just love them! I watched them for almost 3 hours this evening and they are fabulous! I've been looking forward to the "Here's Lucy" DVDs for a long time-- I grew up watching that show and haven't seen it for thirtysome years. What a delight to finally see that show again! The Lucy doll/puppet in the beginning is classic and you know what I enjoyed the most so far? The commentaries from Lucie and Desi Jr. -- it was like they were right here watching the show with me and hearing their comments about the scenes was so enjoyable. I laughed when they did! So far, I've only seen "Lucy and Donny Osmond," "Lucy and Ann-Margret," and "Lucy Sells Craig to Wayne Newton" --with and without commentaries. Wow, I may be up for most of the night watching more! Please let Lucie and Desi Jr. know how much I love these! I've been to the Lucy & Desi Museum, too, and just love it. My hometown of Clymer is not too far from Jamestown. What a blessing! From Chad I have a lot of TV shows on DVD and I must say that this set has the sharpest, clearest picture of any TV show mastered to DVD that I have ever seen. On many other sets you can see dirt and debris on the film, not on these. Someone kept these master prints in pristine condition and I am ever thankful. So far, I have watched 6 episodes, and I agree that some I would not have chosen, but we all have our favorites and fortunately mine is on this set (Lucy The Fixer). Anyway, the extras are great, I got a trip out of the "blooper reels" as they have some footage from later years of "The Lucy Show" as well. "Here's Lucy" was an excellent show that I had not seen since 1987 (excepting two far below average episodes that N@N showed in February 1996) and it certainly brings back memories. I sure hope they will release this season by season, and do it quickly. As slow as they release "I Love Lucy" I will be dead by the time "Here's Lucy" comes out. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to have any of this show on DVD, I never thought it would happen since this series of hers seems to be ignored for the most part. From Eric, in Nebraska The Here's Lucy DVD's are the best thing yet to come out. It's nice to have real comedy back to watch. I had never seen Here's Lucy before I got the DVD's but now I really want to see more of Here's Lucy. The extra features are awesome as well. From Jane I just got this in the mail today and it goes beyond my expectations. Lucie and Desi Jr. picked the episodes, and it's clear with some of their picks that their tastes are not in line with the fans'. BUT, there are still some great episodes on here and, perhaps more importantly, the extra stuff, like live commentary from Lucie, Desi Jr., Carol Burnett, as if they're watching along with you; rehearsal footage; bloopers; and so much more. That more than compensates for some of the episode selections. And for what you get for the money, this is one of the biggest bargains ever. Clearly a lot of thought went in to putting this collection together. You will NOT be disappointed! From Wayne Schluman, in Woodland Hills, CA I bought the DVD set and LOVED the extras. What a treat to go behind the scenes of not only a funny show but to see a genius at work. I highly recommend this DVD set for any LUCY fan. I think Lucie and Desi should put out a set of just extras, I'm sure there is tons of stuff in the vault. Truly priceless. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face. I look forward to watching the shows (I did watch some with the commentaries - also brilliant). Note to Desi Jr. - I still have HUGE crush on Ann-Margret! From Jack, in Delaware
I wanted to add my positive remarks
to this DVD set. I have so far only watched the extras, and that
took a couple of hours. What stands out to me from the
"behind the scenes" footage is how hard Lucille Ball worked
during the rehearsals. These scenes depict to me, after years of
reading, how much she truly was in charge on the set.
Please release all of the episodes from
this series in a season by season format. It's been years since
I've seen any of this material, and I want to see more. Thanks
Lucie and Desi, once again, for producing a top-knotch product.
Kudos to you both! My advice to all- Run, don't walk to your
nearest video dealer and get this set!
From Stefano, in California
Just wanted to leave a comment, that I
bought the "Here's Lucy" DVDs and am very impressed with the
set. The shows all look crystal clear with great sound, and the extras
are a lot of fun.
I am hoping the rest of the series, in
season-by-season sets will be soon to follow. They just look way too
good, for them not to be released.
From Rob Ray, in California I had to drop a note and say that the "Here's Lucy" 4-DVD that I picked up last night looks incredible at first glance. I haven't explored it thoroughly, but did peruse a portion of disc one last night. The prints of the show
look stunning. Lucie and Desi provide an audio commentary on the
first episode of the first DVD, Lucy Meets the Burtons. In
addition, there's about ten minutes worth of rehearsal footage, another
ten minutes of 16mm footage shot as the episode was being filmed, a
brief snippet cut by CBS because it contained a reference to Lucy's
competition, Laugh-In, and text of an opening scene that was not shot. From Patsy, in the U.K. - Aug. 17 First of all, congratulations to Lucie and Desi Jr for taking so much trouble with the release of the Here's Lucy DVDs. If only they could do the same for The Lucy Show. I've only watched the extras and listened to the commentaries on the first discs so far but have enjoyed it all. A good choice of episodes too! From Patsy - Aug. 18 I finished watching the extras last night and am now working my way through the episodes. What I also liked about the commentaries was that in some cases it continued after the episode ended so wasn't cut short like so many are. I'm glad they included that Lucy appearance on the Ann-Margret show. That's a wonderful song and dance. Also that sketch from the charity show (can't remember the organisation but the Debbie Reynolds one) where Lucie and Desi Jr were Lucy and Ricky. We'd never get to see that sort of thing here in the UK so thank goodness for multi-regional players! We have the syndicated versions of Here's Lucy and Desi Jr is right in one of the commentaries when he says about programmes being shorter. It's the same here now. Classic shows rerun are having chucks taken out of them. I don't care if I've never seen it before. But not if it's one of my favourites. HL is my favourite of all the Lucy shows, probably because it was the first I'd ever seen 20 years ago and, being a teenager myself at the time, could identify a little with Kim and Craig. I'm glad it's *finally* got a release because I love that show and my old tapes are wearing out! I watched the 2nd disc
last night and didn't get to bed until 4am. I just couldn't stop
watching. I thought I'd look at a couple then go to bed. I
love the scene in "Lucy and the Little Old Lady" in the office
after Harry's conned poor Kathleen Brady with Lucy and From Brock, in Toronto Lucie and Desi are nothing short of geniuses!! I just finished watching all the bonus materials on the DVDs. They are absolutely amazing! It's impossible to have an overstatement about these DVDs!!! The colour and sound are so perfect! I love Viv's little adlib at the very end of Blooper Reel 1.....I think it is one of my new favourite Viv moments of all time. The commentaries on each of the episodes and a lot of the extras are very funny...especially Lucie and Desi's banter during "Autograph Annie and Celebrity Lu." The behind the scenes footage of Lucy The Sky Diver was very interesting as well....especially Lucie's off hand remark, "She's as cool as a Polly Parker's Perky Pickle cucumber!" I can't say enough about these DVDs. Congratulations to all involved!! From Jim, in New York The DVDs are beyond amazing!!!!!!! I've been watching for over two hours and just the extras! Several of the bloopers are from The Lucy Show and all are hysterical!!! And I thought the bloopers were going to be just from the episodes included, but they are from much more. The DVDs are wonderful and I hope everyone who enjoys them will email Paul Brownstein Productions and tell them how great they are and hopefully we will get more volumes. I thought the color on Pax's copies were great, but they're even better on the DVDs.
